Hailing from San Diego, California, DJ Shaxx discovered his love of alternative music as a teenager while tuning in to the groundbreaking sounds of 91X FM. Immersed in the station's eclectic mix of punk, post-punk, new wave, and alternative rock, he developed a lifelong passion for the music that continues to shape his sets today.
Now based in Portland, Maine, DJ Shaxx specializes in 80s and 90s music, crafting playlists that celebrate both iconic classics and underground favorites. His connection to music extends far beyond the DJ booth. For more than three decades, he has performed as both a drummer and vocalist in a variety of bands, giving him a musician's ear for rhythm, energy, and song selection. That firsthand experience as a performer informs his DJ instincts and interaction with the crowd. DJ Shaxx is the host of the award-winning weekly radio program Left of the Dial on WMPG 90.9 FM Southern Maine Community Radio, where listeners have come to expect his signature blend of deep cuts, music history, and the spontaneous, weekly Karaoke Weather Report.
